Thing 23/ The End

Wow, I really enjoyed the "23 Things"! I didn't realize how much is out in the virtual world. I know it is still in its infancy and is only going to get more advanced and easier to use. I'm glad the library introduced us to some of these aspects it has made me eager to continue the life long learning process. Thanks! JQ

Thing 22/Audiobooks

Took a look at NetLibrary. I listened to the "Little Match Girl" at Project Gutenburg. It was nice to know these are available online. Of the top 100 e books, the manual of surgery was downloaded the most. Interesting or freaky, I'm not sure which. http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/12703

Wikis/Thing 16

Wikis is kinda like a ongoing online conference call,it brings thoughts and ideas from everyone in a organized manner. Some uses for wikis in the library might be for the summer reading participants to share their favorite books or other topics, library book discussion groups or a community wiki about the library in general. Thing 15/ Blog on Web 2.0/ Library 2.0

I have been thinking about the library future and whether it will be needed in the ever increasing virtual world and what its role could become. You really can find almost anything on the web without much guidance. The young people today are almost totally communicating exclusively on the web and keeping all their pictures on line etc. The library staff currently cannot search for a book or check out a book without the computer. I think the library will become virtual and there will be a few libraries left for the purists and maybe the library will come back as a retro or a novelty and it will involve expense because it will be much cheaper to put a book on line or pod or i phone or whatever they will be calling it by then instead of printing something. JQ

Thing 14/Technorati

This was pretty interesting how everything is searchable by words and tags.I searched names and places and came up with some interesting results. I could see using this for fun and research. JQ

Del.icio.us site/ Thing 13

I Think this would be most helpful in research or if you really used alot of sites frequently. JQ

You Tube/Thing 20

I decided to jump ahead for some fun, I really like You Tube, if you have the time, you can find a clip of just about anything. This one is of the island of St John, it has the same views I have seen on my trips there. I plan to watch this over and over when it is cold and snowing out. JQ

7 1/2 Habits of Life-Long Learners

Thinking about some of the habits mentioned, I need to work on accepting responsiblity for my own learning. The library has initiated this program and dangled a carrot at the end (a mp3 player) so would I have done this on my own? I know we are all life long learners in some sense but some of us are more disciplined or not as lazy when it comes to learning new things that may hurt our brains. JQ

blogging about technology

All this technology is very exciting, the digital photography and instant access on the computer has changed the way we communicate in less than 20 years. I wondered what is coming next? Do you think the library will become totally virtual? JQ

This is kinda fun

I can see where this might become addictive, I don't know if anyone else will read this but perhaps it is just to clear the soul or mind I don't think you can be totally honest like a diary because there is that thought that someone might read it and perhaps misunderstand something, so I guess don't write with too much emotion?
